The communities on the west portion in the District of North Vancouver are located with Grouse Mountain to the north, Capilano Lake and River to the west, the Upper Levels Highway to the south and Lonsdale to the east. Characterized by rugged local terrain and quiet meandering streets, most of the single family neighbourhood cul-de-sacs & crescents are family dominated, where games of street hockey add to the charm. Commonly referred to as the ‘North Shore‘ or ‘North Van’, it’s home to close knit communities where neighbourhoods know each others names and are attracted to quality outdoor living. Families that want to live close to the urban conveniences of Vancouver, but still enjoy the peaceful mountain scenery and outstanding recreation close-by. A place to raise your family on the North Shore means easy access to skiing, snowboarding and site-seeing up Grouse Mountain – de rigueur for local residents, with world-famous Grouse Grind right in your own backyard. Trees, mountains, lakes and streams are so much part of the local landscape in North Vancouver with Capilano River Regional Park & Fish Hatchery, Capilano Suspension Bridge or Mosquito Creek Park. Breathtaking views to downtown Vancouver, west to Vancouver Island and south to Mount Baker are enjoyed by many home owners in all six of these exclusive North Van neighbourhoods.
Many of the exclusive neighbourhoods on the North Vancouver west side were originally developed in the late 1940s and early ‘50s. Today the charm of these communities remains intact with mostly single-family homes, many featuring bungalow & rancher style architecture. Numerous homes have been renovated with all the modern luxuries, while recent years have seen the construction of classic ‘West Coast Style’ homes with stunning views and post & beam construction. Townhomes and condominiums are a decidedly smaller portion of the housing mix in North Vancouver west.
Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Grouse Mountain Sky Ride continue to be major attractions for locals and visitors alike
All six of the prime neighbourhoods in North Vancouver west have easy access to the over 100 shops and restaurants at Edgemont Village. Grab an espresso, a bouquet of flowers, or talk fresh sockeye with the local fish monger. Westview and Delbrook shopping centres are also located right in the community. For larger shopping, entertainment and dining excursions, Capilano Mall on Marine Drive or the Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Van are a short drive away. Of note, Capilano Heights Chinese Restaurant first opened in 1972, has been an iconic dining destination for generations of North Shore families.
Families living in the quiet cul-de-sacs and crescents of North Vancouver all take advantage of the outdoor lifestyle it provides. Skiing, snow boarding and street hockey all await on your neighbourhood doorstep. Local tennis courts, Delbrook Community Centre and par 3 golf are all in close proximity. Dog walking and hiking is at its best in Capilano Regional Park, Mosquito Creek Trail and at the Cleveland Dam. Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Grouse Mountain Sky Ride continue to be major attractions for locals and visitors alike.
