Officially designated by the City of Burnaby as a town centre, in addition to a Metro Vancouver regional town centre, Metrotown is a complete neighbourhood in South Burnaby. While Metrotown is famous as a shopping and entertainment destination, it is also one of the finest places to live when it comes to tower-style condominium living. Dating back to when Skytrain arrived in December 1985, deluxe 1 & 2 bedroom condo towers and commercial buildings have made for a dramatic Burnaby skyline.
Today with developers responding to market demand, particularly with downsizing baby boomers, current new and planned luxury towers in the Metrotown neighbourhood have room for families with 2 bedroom and den and 3 bedroom suites with sliding wall balconies available for the discerning buyer. As a destination, Metrotown is one of the true shopping meccas in Canada’s west. With the combined impact of Metropolis, the Crystal Mall, Station Square and Silver City, the Metrotown neighbourhood has over 500 shops and services, all easily accessed by Skytrain, bus and vehicle.

The MLS® HPI Benchmark Prices shown below represent the current expected sales price for a typical or “Benchmark” home in a given neighbourhood.
The MLS® HPI takes into consideration what averages and medians do not – items such as lot size, age, number of rooms, etc. The most commonly traded set of these attributes describes the composite of the typical or ‘benchmark’ property type in a given area. Prices paid for homes with these attributes determine benchmark home prices.
The MLS® Home Price Index is modelled on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) which measures the rate of price change for a basket of goods and services including food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. Instead of measuring goods and services, the HPI measures the change in the price of housing features. Thus, the HPI measures typical, pure price change (inflation or deflation).
The graph below charts the historical Home Price Index over a 3 year period.
Quick Tip: Click on a property type in the chart’s legend to dynamically remove or add that line to the chart.
