Situated in the central interior and heart of the province, and bordered by the Cariboo Mountains in the east and the Fraser River to the west, this biodiverse area changes from north to south. The forested North Cariboo (where the goldfields were found) gives way to the rainforest and mountain lakes of the Central Cariboo. While the South Cariboo – where Four Hearts Ranch is located – enjoys majestic evergreens such as the glorious Douglas fir and pine, rolling grasslands, serene lakes and river gorges.
One of the fundamental features of this vast area is community. Despite the wide-open spaces – or perhaps because of it – the sense of community runs deep. At just 15 minutes away by car, the 2,000 person town of 100 Mile House hosts all the amenities required for sustaining the Ranch lifestyle.
Highway 97 runs through the Town, stretching south to meet up with Highway 99 and the Trans-Canada Highway and north to connect with the Yukon boundary. It is the longest provincial highway in any Canadian province and as such conveniently provides family fun-filled drives and direct highway access to many major cities and communities.
The South Cariboo Regional Airport located at 108 Mile Ranch is an easy 20-minute drive away. This year-round airport serves corporate, government and recreational users and hosts a number of private planes and private charter airlines flying throughout B.C. as well as into Alberta, Idaho, Washington and Montana.
Just over an hour away, Williams Lake Regional Airport is a base for private jets and scheduled airlines as well as helicopter charters and vehicle rentals.
Over the years of ownership, the current custodian of Four Hearts Ranch has amassed a site consisting of 3,906 acres of fee simple land and 2,019-acres of lease and licence land in the South Cariboo. Alive with Douglas fir trees - some over 400 years old - and with deciduous Birch and Aspen, this verdant landscape is a veritable showcase of British Columbia, Canada’s native flora and fauna.
Amassing an acreage of this size in the Cariboo is remarkable, particularly with this much water frontage and grazing land. Approximately 3,400 acres of land is situated in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), and the black angus cattle provide a tax break incentive to the land owner, while also adding to the overall Ranch-style experience.
Eight homes/structures on the land, all homes are log homes except for the 103 House.
The Equestrian Centre is an awe-inspiring display and any horse person’s dream, with state of the art buildings and structures that rivals any centre in the world. The Centre is comprised of:
Water is supplied by a number of wells with quality drinking water. There is a water softening system for the main house.
The water treatment plant treats water for the Main House as well as the buildings that make up the Ranch compound including the Wrangler Cottage, Stable and Mechanical Shop. The other homes have dedicated water filtration systems, except the Outpost and Gate House properties that share a filtration system.
B.C. Hydro, the Provincial energy supplier provides electrical energy by power lines and each home is on a separate meter.
Main House is heated and cooled geothermally, which is an environmentally-responsible and efficient system that uses the earth’s renewable energy to heat and cool the home.
This is available for the Main House and Equestrian aspects but is not used to date except for the water boiler in the Main House. The Aircraft Hangar, Outpost House and Gate House could also have gas heating if desired.
Custom-built facility for storing Cessna-style or Super Cub-length aircraft
Arriving at the entrance to the property, the road meanders past the Gate House, Mechanical Shop, the Riding Arena, Round Pen and Wrangler Cottage, and ultimately to the entry of the Four Hearts Ranch Main House. From the Main House hub, roads connect with all facilities including the 103 House, three and a half miles distant to the south and the Simon Lake house two miles to the north. The Road system has been designed with the environment in mind and there are a number of gated access points to the main highway and outside roads for efficiency.
