The smallest of the Tri-Cities, Port Moody is wrapped around the eastern edge of Burrard Inlet, bordered by Coquitlam on the east & south, and Burnaby on the west. Change in these neighbourhoods is underway with the arrival of Skytrain rapid transit, allowing easy access to and from the rest of the Lower Mainland. For families, retirees or young couples just getting their feet wet in our real estate market, the Port Moody South neighbourhoods of Port Moody Centre, College Park & Glenayre offer a great variety of detached homes, townhomes & newer condominiums. And value. College Park is home to marinas and forested areas with many of the homes enjoying lovely views of the water. While the attractive Glenayre neighbourhood, first conceived back in the 1950s with single family homes and streets that curve, is situated next to the trails of nearby Burnaby Mountain on the western side.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Rocky Point Park in the Port Moody Centre neighbourhood is popular with boaters using the boat launch or hikers using Shoreline Trail, famous for sweeping views of Burrard Inlet and leashed dog walking. Further Rocky Point amenities include outdoor pool, skateboard park, bike trials park, playground, Oak Mill Boat House and Artists in the Park – where you can watch local artists in action (weather permitting!). A series of trails and boardwalks connects to Port Moody Recreation Centre featuring two ice arenas, weight room, tennis courts, spin studio and Port Moody City Hall. The nearby Burnaby Mountain Conservation area is a 576 hecter park with stunning vistas through to Golden Ears & Mount Baker to the east, and Burrard Inlet & Indian Arm to the west and north.
Today Port Moody takes centre stage for its famous Brewer’s Row on Murray Street
Residents of the Port Moody South neighbourhoods all enjoy the restaurants, shops and services on St. John’s Street, the main road in Port Moody. One block north, Clarke Street is more laid back and offers an interesting mix of shops, galleries and bistros in the historic Port Moody core. Thrifty Foods & IGA are both nearby for major grocery shopping, while it’s just a short ride to the new and improving Lougheed Town Centre. Port Moody is famous for the last spike and was declared the terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1879. Today Port Moody takes centre stage for its famous Brewer’s Row on Murray Street – four highly touted craft breweries all located within easy walking distance of each other.
Rapid transit is transforming Port Moody’s appeal with the arrival of the Evergreen Extension to the current Millennium Line. With two Skytrain stations including Burquitlam Station and Moody Centre, regular busses running through Port Moody to Coquitlam, Burnaby & Vancouver, and convenient access to the West Coast Express, these three Port Moody South neighbourhoods are well-served by public transit. Port Moody is in the catchment area of school district No. 43 in Coquitlam – the third largest in British Columbia. With over 55 percent of families in College Park with children, residents of Port Moody South can choose from a total of 3 local elementary schools, 2 community schools, 2 middles schools, and 2 secondary schools. Also close by is the Traditional Learning Academy, a private catholic school with grades K to 12.
