Compared to more expensive neighbourhoods in Vancouver, Central Burnaby has a good mix of more affordable single family homes and lower rise condominiums. Buyers will find a selection of post war split level designs, in addition to many modern contemporary homes.
The Burnaby Hospital neighbourhood in South Burnaby is traditionally referred to as Cascade-Schou. Over the last twenty-five years, Burnaby has seen significant changes in its demographic profile, today being more urban and culturally diverse. With over 50 percent of immigrants in the community, numerous neighbourhood residents come from Hong Kong, China, India, Portugal & Kenya. Home ownership is high in the Burnaby Hospital area with over 60 percent owning their own home. The most common types of housing are both single family homes and duplexes, with a smaller selection of townhouse and lower rise condominiums.
The Central Park neighbourhood in South Burnaby is at the heart of the city. The neighbourhood is adjacent to multiple transportation links, shopping & recreational facilities. The majority of real estate in the Central Park neighbourhood is composed of single family homes both new and many dating to the 1950s and ‘60s. Higher density and tower living is close by, further down Kingsway towards Metrotown.
BCIT, the British Columbia Institute of Technology is one of province’s largest post-secondary institutions and is one of the premier polytechnic post secondary schools in Canada. Elementary schools nearby include Douglas Road just off of Canada Way, Cascade Heights, Inman and Chaffey-Burke. Moscrop Secondary School. and Burnaby Central Secondary are close-by offering grades 8 to 12.

Recreational amenities in this area include the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West – a state-of-the-art facility with both artificial and natural turf sports fields are used for community soccer, field hockey, football, ultimate and field lacrosse. The Complex also features a 10,000 square foot clubhouse, tennis courts & archery fields. Central Burnaby is home to Burnaby 8 Rinks featuring six NHL-sized ice surfaces, indoor soccer field and a dedicated figure skating rink as the BC Centre of Excellence. Central Park in the area is a 90 hectare forested oasis featuring a well-preserved temperate rainforest ecosystem. Central Park offers locals tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, 8 km of cycling, jogging & walking trails and one of the finest pitch & putt golf courses in BC. Another big attraction is Swangard Stadium, host to many international and local sporting events. Green spaces include Avondale Park, a great place to walk your dog. The Discovery Place Conservation Area at Gilmore & Sanderson Way is 1.7 km walk through an urban deciduous forest with unique grasses and wildflowers. Burnaby Hospital in the neighbourhood is one of the largest hospitals outside the City of Vancouver and a 314 bed primary and secondary patient care facility.
The Gilmore Station on the Millennium Line offers quick rapid transit to downtown Vancouver, while the Lougheed Highway and Highway 1 mean easy vehicle access to other parts of the Lower Mainland.
